This has been going on for quite awhile, actually. While I don't want to pay more, there is some validity to their argument. They built the infrastructure, we use it.

It is a fallacious argument akin to a mob's "Neighborhood Protection" insurance policy.

Yes, they built the network. However, both sides pay bandwidth charges to use the network. The end-users (us) pay for the bandwidth to access the site (dial-up, cable, DSL, etc...) and the providers pay for the bandwidth to serve their content.

This nonsense is truly nothing more than "Gee... That's a fast website you have there. It would be a shame if anything were to happen to it's connection speed."
