I'm still not sure why this is a partisan issue... I keep hearing about it in those terms, but it just doesn't make any sense. Where does either party have a stance on such things?

I think it's simply becasue they are political hacks hoping to capitalize on anything that is big enough to make the news.
There was a kid in Texas whose ventilater was shut off despite his mother's protests and he wasn't even comatose, that wasn't there to cloud or make the issue easier. But, the press didn't snatch onto the one like thay did the Schiavo case, so the politicos didn't get involved to protract it longer.
It's not partisan, and really only a few people actuslly care about her life. She's become an 'issue' that a thousand people have seen an poorunity to capitalize on.
