In general, I don't shower in the mornings. It's mostly a time management/laziness issue - I refuse to get out of bed even a second earlier than I absolutely need to. Neil- in the apartment i grew up in we couldn't flush the toilet or the water would become scalding hot. In the apt I lived in in Memphis, there were no conflicts of interest with the toilet, but if someone ran the water in the kitchen sink, whichever temperature was used by the sink quit in the shower (running hot water in the sink made the shower cold and vice versa). Do you think a similar thing might be happening in your apartment? Just a guess. Glad to hear you weren't burned too badly. -Tina

I'm sure it's a similar thing here...but it doesn't have to be my apartment that's using the water. There was no one else here when I was in the shower...but I'm sure our piping is shared with a ton of other apartments, so someone might have been flushing the toilet, someone else filling their water pitcher, and the next thing you know you have Steamed Neil with Broccoli.

Isn't your landlord required to install water temp regulators in the showers? I know that a few years ago a tenant in NJ sued after being burned in his/her shower. I'd check into that if I were you.

Think of it, you were only a few painful moments away from Easy Street.
