Finished this today, and it's extremely good. I can't help feeling how much a little me would have adored a book where the hero is a *girl* and not the pretty one everyone pays attention to - and some very cool fantastical ideas. I still love reading good kids SF/F. 5 stars.

I thought it was an 8 out of 10 in the category "Children's Book" but maybe a 6 out of 10 in the category "Book by China Meiville" as there were some recycled ideas from his other books and his use of English was not quite as flowing as we know he can do.

That said, I think I would have really enjoyed this book circa age 11 and would reccommend it to simmilarly-aged girls (and boys) now.
