Seriously!?

I have to have a root canal.

I have never had any real problems with my teeth, and now I am kinda freaking out. Can anyone who's had one tell me about what they are like? My dentist tried to explain things to me, but after "needle in the nerve" I went to my happy place and stopped paying attention.

Get the nitrous oxide and you won't care. That's what I did.

Lucky you to avoid them this long! I think I've had 4 now - too many anyway! They aren't that bad really. The worst part is the numbing, I always close my eyes so I can't see the needle coming, that helps. Once you get past that inital "stick" it's not a big deal.

Unless you are like me and have a part of your mouth they can't numb. A root canal without the pain numbing is not something I recommend at all, it was not fun. :<

But I am the exception and normally once the area is numb there is drilling and poking but all you really feel is some pressure and the awkwardness of having your tongue sitting to one side for a while. Have someone drive you home if possible. The drugs always make me loopy that first day. Oh and I alwys milk that numb mouth thing and treat myself to ice cream. Plan on smooth soup or broth for dinner.

Afterwards is a few days of pain but your dentist should give you drugs for that.

Does that help?
