I agree with you that the romance drags out a little near the end, and even having not read the book, I could kinda see some of the writing on the wall. The book's last line(my friend Rich told me), and the film's last line were fucking awesome. Just perfect.
And the Cornell song grew on me. The whole opening of the film, from the b/w sequence to the credits was the best ever IMHO.
I read online that they were actually considering people like Jessica Simpson for the role of Vesper Lynd. It would have been Denise Richards all over again. Christ. Eva Green was great, and man were the Bond Girls hot in this movie.
I love how many loose threads are left at the end of the film, I can't wait for the next one.

Agreed, the opening sequence was great. My favorite is still the Rock of Gibraltar opening from "The Living Daylights", but I saw that one at the formative age of 12(ish) so it always stuck with me as the perfect Bond teaser.
Jessica Simpson??? Seriously??!?!?!?! Glad I missed that rumor...my coronary thrombosis would have prevented me from seeing the flick.
I'm glad I survived to see the Spider-Man 3 and Rocky Balboa trailers. Can't wait!
