Wind and rain

The wind became quite gusty after church on Sunday.  Then, at 3 o'clock, the power went out.  When it began to get dark, I set candles around the kitchen and front room.  There was a fire in the wood stove, of course, and that provided light as well.  At supper time, I fixed Neil a toasted cheese sandwich and me a fried egg sandwich by using a ( Read more... )

I wouldn't feel I could do anything without electricity or water, either. You should see me at work when the computers go down! I am completely lost.

I'm glad that your power is back on!

(For future reference, your local Safeway sells water by the gallon for probably less than a dollar or two. Next time you go shopping, you might want to check the prices. You could even pick up a gallon just to keep on hand - that way you would be able to dampen a washcloth and wash your hands when the power is out. Or you could keep some baby wipes on hand to clean your hands with.)

I can just go out to the storage tank and get water a pan at a time. Heating it is the problem. I can do that on the wood stove but it takes hours. I had the spray bottle I use to dampen clothes when I iron them. I used that to spray my hands with water. It just wasn't like being able to wash with soap and warm water.

I am such a wimp though. I watched the BBC news yesterday. Their reporter and cameraman were in north-eastern Japan where the landscape was just a big rubbish heap. Not that you could see much of it through the snowstorm.
