Yesterday afternoon a frantic young woman ran up to my front door.  She said she had to park in my driveway because her boyfriend had gone over the bank.  I threw on my jacket and followed her.  North of my house a few hundred yards the road curves around the hill above the railroad tracks.  It's an amost sheer drop 25-30 feet down to the tracks.  ( Read more... )

Yikes, indeed.

I know you haven't kept track, but in general terms, how many cars would you say have unintentionally landed on your property in the last 30 or so years? I believe no one has ever been seriously hurt, which is astonishing.

Most of the time when cars go over, they have been drinking. If I had a dollar for every beer bottle found on the property, it would probably be a bit over 100 dollars.

I would guess ten to fifteen. Most of them heading south.

This one landed north of my two acres. You're right that none of the ones that have gone over the bank onto my place have been seriously injured. However, where Casey went over is a different story. Several years ago a couple of guys went over at that spot and one of them died instantly. I had to testify before a grand jury about that one because the guy who was driving walked away and didn't tell the police what happened.

Matthew is probably right about alcohol being involved in a lot of the accidents.
