we were between ireland and greenland, the ocean was cracked, frosted glass. my breath fogged the window as i leaned against it, and condensation had frozen into snowflake bursts across the outer panes. the temperature outside was -93 degrees celcius. it didn't feel as if we were diving into a steep incline, yet. while everyone had just finished their lunch and had cosily settled themselves into one of many in flight entertainment options, these lovely, tentacled, deep sea creature resembling devices sprang from their dusty and functionally indispensable, frequently obsolete cages in such a precise and synchronised way that only a reliability engineer would deem it as an excellent demonstration of probability. "remain seated, with your seatbelt fastened securely around your waist." we didn't make it to godthab.
we're all executing the same emotions, in time with another, not an original spoken word that is not spoken by at least 300 others at any moment. when i mean it, someone else means it with even more intensity, chained to a wall, dripping their own blood upon a concrete floor in front of their estranged lover, meaning it more, meaning it harder and longer and for specific, deadly acute reasons. reasons i can only imagine, and when i do, there are countless others imagining with the exact same synapses, all forced, by unseen, chemical reactions, only to look up from their poignant stare to utter the same exasperated albeit enlightened "oh" and look out whatever window is nearest. thanking god they're inside because it's too fucking cold out there.
