Niou's lame, dorky, megane family? Poor Niou. He really does not see the appeal that everyone else does :|

Thanks!

Something that awes me every time you post is the sense of place that permeates your writing. In so many stories (novels, not only fics), the characters could be transposed to any other setting without the readers noticing (or even, perhaps, caring); not so with yours. Your writing is so rich and textured--it's incredibly sensuous (as well as sensual in places!), which makes the tale you tell so immersive and so much more real.

I also find this story so thematically interesting. I have a deep and abiding love for early modern/renaissance/shakespearian theatre, and many of the issues explored in this story are tropes seen in those plays: exploration of sight and blindness; doubling; disguise; mistaken identity; the liminal; culture/the wild (psychologically as well as literally through place). I love Niou's dreams, and could probably write an essay on them, and their importance. (They're not only hot, they're a perfect method of sharing Niou's introspection and realisation with the audience.)

So, um, yeah. I really love this fic.

It wouldn't be Tenipuri if it wasn't set in Japan, with characters who are teenage boys playing tennis, imo. That, and Japan has such a sense of both the familiar and the exotic that it would be a shame to not permeate fics with it--things like strange toilets and trains that sing, and the popularity of convenience stores and pachinko and brand names. Is it terribly obvious I love Japanese culture? Japan is so rich and alluring that I can only hope to touch on the tip of the iceberg in fics like this ( ... )

Poor Niou still struggling over his attraction to Yaguu. I like how you never have Niou refer to himself as 'gay' but he uses other terms, like his 'sickness'. That rings so true to me in teenage-boy speak.

Also, I must be a bit of a masochist just like Niou because I love all of your references to what a little shit Yaguu continues to be on the sly. I felt guilty but I did laugh a little when I read this:
Even though he’s seen the laser hundreds of times, in practice and in official games, each and every time he swings back and puffs his chest up and drops his shoulders and straightens his knees, each and every time, Yagyuu still shouts at him in that higher, Niou-like voice, goading him, taunting him, telling him his laser sucks, his laser is too slow, it’s too wobbly and not straight.

Yagyuu seems to enjoy that barb in particular. He sneers. He snorts when Niou blinks and steps back, in shock and hurt as his stomach churns and the salad and toast he ate for breakfast curdles inside.I continue to wait with barely contained glee ( ... )

So many fics include characters having a meltdown over being gay (in my experience, HP fics at least) and those never sat well with me--maybe it was the terminology I wasn't comfortable with? "Sickness" just seems to fit better with teenage boys, so I am glad it worked for you, too.

Yagyuu is so mean. He smokes, he gets Niou laps, he pulls nasty little pranks. Really, he's a bit of a sadist underneath to Niou's insecure, desperate dumb teen. It certainly makes their characters more interesting to see them that way, imo.

As always, thank you so very much! &hearts

Thank you so much!

(Yagyuu meeting Niou's family is such a popular thing! He would be so ashamed at that! ;)
