I think that Sharon was right. I think that Natalie is and the rest of the Cylons are after Hera, because I believe that Hera is the 12th (or 13th) Cylon. Natalie is searching for the final five, and Hera is an integral part of that search.
But there's absolutely not way I can justify what Sharon did. None. I've always known she was capable of killing someone in cold blood if she had to in order to protect what she's fought so hard for. Yet seeing it come to reality, especially based on something so real/unreal as a dream is hard to accept as a fan of hers.
Just like in real life, you're always hoping that the people you love can be more than what they are. Sharon has so many times proven that she can be - that she's capable of being more than a Cylon or a soldier. She's learned to forgive and to ignore the hate that surrounds her. But there's a part of her that will never change. The part of her that cares only for those she loves, and holds little value for anyone outside of that small circle.
I wonder if there was a time when that could have been different. If she had been treated as an ally instead of an enemy the day she arrived. If Pegasus had never happened, or Roslin hadn't faked Hera's death. Could she have been a different person, the kind of person that values all life?
We'll never know.
Still, my love for the character is not diminished despite my disappointment. The same facet of her personality that brought her to shoot Natalie is the same facet that I love her for 99% of the rest of the time. People are package deals.
I do think there are some very, very dark days ahead for the Agathons. This was just the first step on road to what I think will be some tough times for them in the next three episodes. I'm unspoiled, but I believe that Sharon will be dead before the mid-season finale. In many ways, it seems her story is over, and the fact that she's trying so desperately to hang on to it seems quite telling to me. It's just a guess on my part, but I think the ducks are starting to line up in such a way that they can get rid of her.
Either way I think it's obvious that Sharon has shot the wrong Six. With Helo jumped away, and Sharon sure to end up in the brig or worse, I think the writers are about to steal Hera once more. Hopefully when the sh*t hits the fan, the writers will give the storyline the screen-time it deserves, instead of half-assing it the way they have this season.
Just as a note, I haven't read anyone else's thoughts on Guess What's Coming to Dinner, and I don't plan on doing so anytime soon. It's just one of those episodes where I know there's going to be some pretty critical reactions, and so I'll spare myself the drama. No offense to anyone on my friends list or over at Kindreds.
