Squall Leonhart @ Final Fantasy Wiki

[ Personality ] :
Squall Leonhart, at first glance, is the very model of a moody teenager. He's cynical, acts apathetic, gets annoyed and frustrated easily, and he's not one for sugar coating his words. An introvert, Squall tries to avoid social contact, a relic from his childhood days when the shock of someone he cared very much for suddenly disappearing was too much for him to handle. As a child, he decided that getting close to people just invited pain and became sullen and gloomy. He has abandonment issues as a result, and years later, he still handles loss poorly. Even when he was surrounded by people, Squall spent much of his life alone, quite a bit in self isolation.

When he does inevitibly find himself in social situations, he tries to keep himself on the edges and anyone who does happen upon him will find an awkward person who really, really would like to end this conversation now. And even better, for to be left alone. Squall has a tendency to notice mainly the bad traits in people upon first meeting them, which gives him excuses to not like them. However, over time, he starts to see people's good qualities and will quietly admire them for those.

Squall doesn't make friends so much as has he has people thrusting friendship upon him. When all attempts to turn someone away fail, Squall accepts the fact that he won't be able to push them away and learns to tolerate them, eventually appreciating them and their company. He will never admit this fact and will continue to pretend that they're nuisances that he's given up on trying to get rid of. Grumpy as he is, Squall is mostly harmless to his friends and allows them to push him around and rope him into things he isn't thrilled about on a regular basis. He's fiercely protective of these people, secretly appreciative that they'd want to be his friends despite his personality. More often than not, he ends up the caretaker of his friends, looking after them like a parent. If someone he cares about is in deep trouble, Squall becomes extremely impatient and rude, lashing out at people who may or may not deserve his wrath.

He is much more patient and talkative with friends, even occasionally opening up to them. Even so, he's very careful and selective on what he'll tell them. Even if he has friends willing to be by his side, Squall still likes doing dangerous things alone - knowing that there are people who support and care about him is enough to keep him going and by doing things by himself, he is protecting them in a roundabout way. Due to his training, Squall is very self sufficient and able to take care of himself.

Raised in a military setting, Squall has all the makings of a perfect mercenary. He is serious and dilligent, some would even say married to his work. A strategist, he likes to think things through and consider all the variables of a situation before making decisions and forming plans. When given a job, he will do whatever it takes to complete it. He is willing to take personal risks to get something done and has a skewed view of the world. Things that a normal person may find cruel or horrifying, especially things concerning his military lifestyle, Squall merely sees as facts of life. A responsible person, he often gets shouldered with leadership roles and even though he doesn't like them, he will do them all while inwardly complaining about it. He's much more at ease with being told what to do and going out and doing it, even if it's something he'd find difficult or trying of his patience. He will, however, question orders if he thinks there's something fundementally wrong with them.

Because he grew up in a world where he's constantly pressured, Squall performs well under stress, but too much of it will get to him and make him break down for a while, feeling like people expect too much of him. Squall is also stubborn and prideful, and that sometimes overrides his practical mind and cause him to take on tough challenges or do foolhardy things when his emotions start to boil over.

[ Sample ] :
He dreamt he was drowning. Not the metaphorical kind of drowning like "drowning in paperwork." No, he dreamt that he was trapped underwater and actually drowning. And just as he thought he was going to die, Squall woke up. It was just a dream.

But if it was just a dream, then why was he soaked to the bone? Maybe it wasn't a dream and he really was drowning. He never had the best experiences with dreams. Squall sat up and took a quick look at his surroundings, coming to the thrilling conclusion that he had never seen this place before. Nor had he even heard about a place that even remotely matches its description and - was that the ocean where the sky was supposed to be? His only consolation was that this city(?) was pretty to look at. Or, it would be, if Squall actually cared about those kinds of things.

Whatever. Squall didn't care where or what this place was. He just needed to know how he got there, if this place itself was dangerous, and how to leave. For a brief moment, he wondered how long he's been missing. Was Garden looking for him, or was he assumed dead? No, he couldn't focus on that now. What he needed was information. In the corner of his eye, he spotted a faint grey light.

"What the hell are you?" he asked it.

It didn't respond, so he ignored it and got onto his feet. Answers don't come free; it was time to find out what was up. And hopefully not catch a cold.
