Today was a rather weird day. Not because it was bad, nor good, but it rates somewhere in the middle. I was actually able to sleep and be fully rested (\o/!), I finished up two papers (\o/!), I called my Daddy (\o/!), Daddy-O was in the hospital (-_-;), Daddy-O has an infection in his pancreas (-_-;) and my best friend's health isn't doing so well ( Read more... )

I am often surprised at just how calming an outdoor shrine is. I loved going to the jinja in Japan... especially to the ones you randomly find a long the way while walking home from work/school/whatever. It's just a nice surprise :)

And gah I hit the reply button too soon. I really wish the best for your dad and your friend. It's really hard having someone close to you sick; so please, if you ever need to talk, feel free to write to me, pm me on lj, whatever and I will be more than happy to listen.

I'm generally also surprised at how calm shrines are in Japan, until I realize there is a coffee shop tacked onto the side and a vending machine next to the water.

Go. Go. JAPAN.

Christan churches have always left me feeling like I'm being judged, which is not what I feel religion should be about. This is why I don't go to church. That and I have a few issues with the Christian God.

The few experiences I've had with other faiths has been rewarding if for no other reason than I did not feel like I was being judged.

A lot of that has to do with the various sects of Christianity, and yes; Christianity in America has a tendency to be a "holier than though" practice.

I just hope people do realize that these Christians who "judge" others and this bad feeling that you get in a church are not what the religion is about. Go to a church in Japan. I bet you get a TOTALLY different view of the religion.

Well I understand what the religion is about and if it was just the whole church aspect I'd continue to worship God in my home. The uncomfortable feeling is why I don't go to church.

As I initially stated, I have other issues with the Christian God as well that prevent me from practicing that faith.

Dude really? You can easily take issue with people, rote, practices... anything. Those are all to be expected and healthy for christians and non-christians alike.

How the fuck do you take issue with a deity itself (barring some sort of D&Desque fascination with slayin' gods and such)?
