Been too damned long since I had a chance to pass along some of the fun stuff that I've been reading. How 'bout I fix that?
More Ancient Hills Discovered in Burnt City As some of y'all may remember from an earlier entry,
Burnt City is one of the coolest and most important archaeological sites in Iran. I'm a big fan of it, in part because

My fave Atlantis theory is the one that says it's Antartica. I think it's the least likely, but the COOLEST.

In the meantime, help yourself to where Atlantis really began.

In this link about the bread they found in the Burnt City (which is just so cool, btw), Professor Constantini mentioned they also found remnants of "aash", a soup they still make in Iran. I find it fascinating that a kind of food can still be made 5000 years later, which led me to find some recipes for modern aash here and here. They sound pretty good; I'll let you know how they are if I end up making them.
I found it unspeakably endearing when the guy in your main link about Bryn Celli Ddu said "I was trying to record it with stills and digital cameras as well as on a video camera, but I was jumping up and down." *cuddles fellow geeks*
For some reason, the Bryn Celli Ddu articles made me think of the White Shaman site in the Lower Pecos River area. I went there on a field trip in 8th grade, and the pictures I've found don't do it justice. It is one amazing place. Remind me, and I'll scan my pictures (which are better than the ones online, IMO) from the trip when it's not 5 in the ( ... )

And, yeah, I fell a little in love with the dude who was so excited that he kept jumping up and down when trying to snap pictures. I bet the off-camera soundtrack for his recording is AWESOME.
Hey, I've been to the White Shaman site! Oh, man. That was ages ago...maybe '96 or '97. I haven't thought about that place in years. Oh, please, yes, scan your pics when it's not five in the morning. I'd love to see those! (Especially if you have a few dorky junior high kids from Texas all bundled up because it was...hee! forty degrees.)

Hee! I want DVD extras. God, I love geeks.
Alright. "Scan White Shaman pics" is now on the List. And to defend our honor, the reason we were bundled up was because we'd been expecting warm, sweaty, dry weather, and had packed accordingly. Instead, a freak convergence of three weather patterns caused unseasonal and unexpected cold, wet, windy weather. We had to cope by wearing every single piece of clothing we'd brought in an attempt to achieve warmth through layers. It was seriously so crappy that when we went to Big Bend (a later part of the trip), we couldn't even get up to the Basin because the road iced over. In fall. In West Texas. All the desert scrub brush was frosted over on the drive back. I'm just sayin', it's a desert. Adding to the fun, the stupid bint (I'm justified in saying bad things about her, because she was a bitch who turned all my friends against me, leaving me alone and abandoned and scarred for life in junior high) who had brought the tent for our group ( ... )

However, re: the stupid bint? BITCH. And also, MORON. What a shitty tent to subject y'all to. Argh. Rain under the bags is definitely not cool. And why the fuck did she go all bitchy about you? Just one of those shitty junior high girl things to do? *hates her vicariously*
Katie, of course, got to go on the spring semester trip, which had astoundingly beautiful post-rainy season desert sights. Sigh.
*pets you*
Hey, are you going to Winchestercon? Any idea yet?
