Introduction to the Experiment Episode 4 Episode 5: Sakura, Panda, and A Cute Shop (Card Captor Sakura) or Trouble At Twin Bells (Cardcaptors)
The first scene shows a little girl sleeping peacefully while her stuffed animals, one by one, start jumping around. After that, Sakura is on her way to school and discovers a new shop opening up. She tells her friends and they go visit it, only to find that everything is still in boxes. Apparently, the owner trips a lot and/or the boxes just fall out of her hands. So Sakura and her friends help set things up. While they're all having some tea, a (freaky-looking) stuffed panda jumps out of a pile and toward Chiharu. Chiharu loves plushies so she buys this panda. Everyone ends up at Chiharu's place to look at her vast collection of plushies. When they leave Chiharu's room to look at still more plushies in the living room, they hear a noise and rush back to find that someone has taken the panda. At school, Tomoyo and Sakura discuss the situation, with Tomoyo relating that there is a rumor in the toy store industry that stores owned by this particular owner always have this tendency that have everyone who shops at it to have their house burgalarized (in the English version, Madison just relates that isn't it unlikely that if someone were to rob Chelsea that they managed to get in, get the panda, and get out without anyone noticing? She doesn't bring up a toy store industry rumor). They go to the store and the panda is right there! The shop owner is alarmed because this has happened before. In her previous town, rumors started to spread that anyone who bought from her would be robbed and began to suspect that she was the thief. The two go back to Kero and ask him which Clow Card would steal plushies. He can't think of any but Sakura is determined to try and help the shop owner. So, having Tomoyo distract the shop owner, they search the store. Eventually, they discover the Jump Card, which leads them on a bouncy chase. Eventually, the Jump Card gathers all the plushies together to make itself huge and tries to step on Sakura. But it becomes unbalanced and falls, breaking itself apart and knocking itself out. Sakura then seals the card. All is well.

This was a fun little episode despite the fact that the stuffed animals were, for the most part, freaky looking. Seriously, that panda toy was deranged.
Once again, the CC title wins again. Listing nouns does not a good title make.
The "This Time" is vague and dialogue-less once again but the "Card of the Day" sequence is obsessed with Syaoran. Again, it's an episode with Syaoran in it and the sequence actually shows him catching the card, in this case, the Time Card. Seriously, lay off the Syaoran spoilers, okay? Edit: Again, the alternate set does not contain this segment.
This episode is pretty much the same in each version. Very little is cut or changed. Notable cuts include: Madison doesn't sing, Julian is cut once again, Madison doesn't tell the toy industry rumor, and the shop owner doesn't tell that vaguely creepy story about how her dead fiance loved stuffed animals and he wanted to open up a toy shop so he could sell his designs but he died in an accident so she does it in his stead. Ooo-kay, lady. But, again, these scenes are not that important.
The muzak is back with a vengence along with that silly "just around the corner" song.
There are two minor changes/cuts that I liked and disliked regarding Tomoyo: During the "the girls help the shop owner" sequence, Tomoyo picks up a toy and discovers that it's one made by her family's company. It's a cute moment that was cut which made me sad. On the other hand, Madison's distraction method is updated to fit the technological advances that had been made since the original broadcast, with her discussing digital cameras and editing movies on a computer. I thought it was a nice touch to update her dialogue.
And one change I didn't really like: they made the Godzilla Jump actually roar instead of making that "boing" sound like in the Japanese. I thought having this huge creature make such a silly sound was funnier than playing it straight.
Hm, there's not much to report in terms of contrasting the two episodes. I mean, the English version makes the cuts I just mentioned but they neither help nor hinder the story. So, I'll use this time to bring up problems I'm having:
1. How come Sakura never wears a helmet? She wears elbow and knee pads but she doesn't protect her freaking skull from harm? Her dad lets her go off like that? This bugs me immensely.
2. So apparently the problems the shop was having was caused by the Jump Card. But the time frame doesn't work. For it to have been causing problems enough that rumors had started and she had to close her old shop and set up a new shop, it would have been there for months. I would think that business transaction such as opening and closing a shop would take quite a bit of time. Has it really been months since Sakura opened the book? They never give us any idea how long it's been. Tell us, anime!
In conclusion, this episode is pretty fun but there is very little to note in terms of changes made, so I judge these episodes to be...
Equal!
