How Can It Be

That people want to forget about film & film's capabilities. I hate knowing all this work & learning is taking me no where next semester. I truly doubt that you can get half as much color detail & depth w/ digital imaging over color film. Really truly, where is the proof?

People not recognizing film makes me sad as well. The digital aspect of being so instantaneous I suppose overpowers the beauty and understanding of what using the "dodge" or "solarize" tool means outside of photoshop and taking the time to compose and adjust the picture correctly INITIALLY and being able to see details and depth of field and grain. I have never been as happy with black and white on a digitial camera as I was with film. Sometimes I hate where the world is going and I just want to go backwards. People aren't necessarily happier or better now that we have mp3 players, cell phones that are meant to be replaced in 1 or 2 years, internet access everyplace, traffic jams and more than anyone can generally accomplish and absorb in a 24 hour day with no escape. Maybe that is because we aren't doing things correctly. My rats don't care and they make me feel much better than any of those things and they seem to be pretty happy. Sometimes if you take the time to do things the slower way, the result can be not only of better ( ... )

I agree w/ you! I really dislike that people are just forgetting how to do things on there own w/ out the help of some sort of computer. I'm upset because I'm taking color photography at my school & this is the last semester that they are going to have a color lab w/ color enlargers. Mt. Sac is going all digital, mainly because of the costs of maintaining the color equipment, but I think that's really cheapening the photo department which was next to PCC in comparison. It's true that you can literally see a difference in the color prints. There is richness & depth to real color prints from negatives that fall really flat when it comes to digital. Yes, color digital images are very vibrant at times but the colors are usually lacking in variations and shadows. Does that make sense? & I agree black and white will never be able to compare digitally to film. I also think it's sad to see all these people who just start out in photography going digital because it's so easy. Anyone can be a 'photographer' and take somewhat decent pictures but ( ... )

lol I don't know how she would respond. I think people have told her before to be quiet while she's talking because she talks really really loudly. Sometimes I feel bad for her because she is like a child mentally & I try to be really nice to her but there are other times she drives me crazy & it's hard for me not to say something to her.
