I'm afraid I have a bit of a silly question. Perhaps I just haven't been paying attention enough -- which is entirely plausible -- but there's quite a bit of talk about this... "prom". What exactly is that ( Read more... )

I didn't quite get it at first either, buddy. But the general idea is that you take someone as a date. Someone you're particularly attached and/or attracted to and you spend a good portion of the night with them. Y'know. All romantic and stuff.

This year, I'm taking someone, but last year I just went with a big group of friends. It was awesome!

I'll save you a dance this year, if you'd like that?

A date...? A romantic date... That's...

...
Interesting. That's very interesting, Knuckles.

It's silly to save someone a dance if they aren't going, isn't it?

Oh, you're not gonna attend? That would be a shame... You'd be missing out on one of the most fun nights of the year!

I'm not sure it's really a 'me' place. It sounds very... I don't know a word for it. I... I'll see.

Ah yes, I had been a bit puzzled by this, as well, but I had read about what a prom entails some days ago. It is indeed what Knuckles describes it as. I myself am going with a date, as well.

Then everyone is going with dates. Is that is? What an interesting idea. I don't think they had proms in Lilycove.

Mm, yes, although it seems you may also go with friends~ I would be pleased to see you there, as well, if my date would not horribly mind.

Me? Well... I don't know. Maybe. I just wanted to understand why everyone was so interested in it. That's all.

[Gets angry that someone once again seems to be afraid of not being human, but decides that maybe it'd be a little creepy to keep hounding them about it without ever having met them (also perhaps there are reasons he does not understand), so he just >:['s at the screen and doesn't type anything.]

[He's such an understanding guy. If Voile were to know of his thoughts, she'd be very appreciative. Even if he is angry.]

It is a waste of funding. A distraction from our education.

Well, all work and no play makes some people very dull, Professor.

It is money better spent on more practical things. A single-night blowout is not responsible.

No. I suppose you're right. Perhaps it would be okay to let everyone have a moment to enjoy themselves, though...?

From the information I've gathered, the prom is a formal dance held for students at the end of the year. It's customary for them to dress up and bring a "date" along, a partner of the opposite sex that they like. It must be fun, since everyone is so excited for it. I don't have any personal experiences with proms, so that's about as much as I can tell you. Sorry! But I did ask the same question myself, and that's the answer I was given.

I hope I helped?

It can be a partner of the same sex too, if the people involved prefer that.

Oh! Oh, of course. I didn't mean to leave anyone out like that.
