PMMM Wiki drama CD 1 translation Personality: Before the multiple time resets, Homura was a shy and insecure girl, who had trouble expressing her feelings entirely, which also led to a lot of self-doubt. As someone who spent a great deal of time in the hospital due to a heart condition, Homura is awkward in her new environment, wanting to fit in, but finding it hard to do so; she can barely manage to write down the answers to a math equation on the board in class, and feels overwhelmed when asked questions by her new classmates.
Add to the fact that she can't even get through gym class without passing out, though that turned out to be partially accidentally the result of Madoka using her magic so that Homura could make the jump... and then being incapable of stopping the magic, and she essentially is very helpless and in her own thoughts, useless. This makes her an easy target for the witch, Izabel, who attempts to lure Homura into killing herself, though Mami and Madoka come to her rescue before anything can happen.
Perhaps the most influential person in Homura's life is Madoka Kaname. Having the cheerful and energetic girl come to her aid, Homura feels a small sense of gratitude towards the other girl, though she also, at the same time, feels a sense of embarrassment that someone else has to come bail her out of trouble. Madoka is also the reason Homura became a Puella Magi; after her death to Walpurgis in the first timeline, Homura makes a wish to redo her meeting with Madoka, to protect instead of being protected. As a result, Homura winds up contracting with Kyuubey, and gaining the power to reset time; upon the first reset, Homura walks right up to Madoka on her first day of class, and excitedly declares that she's a Puella Magi now, as well. This leads to Homura coming along with Mami and Madoka to hunt witches, and to learn the ropes about being a Puella Magi.
This also leads to a lot of awkward shenanigans with Homura learning how to most effectively battle.
Homura's helplessness and clumsiness tends to get the best of her, in general, as she's seen in the first timeline telling Madoka that they should run away, instead of Madoka fighting Walpurgis solo. In Homura's mind, there's nothing they can do, especially as Mami just died, and, thus, it's a hopeless fight. Add Madoka dying from her wounds after the battle, and Homura's just feels even more hopeless, leading her to her wish.
"I want to redo my meeting with Kaname-san. Instead of being protected by her, I want to protect her!"
By the end of the third timeline, though, Homura's admiration towards Madoka turns into dedication towards a cause; having watched Madoka turn into a witch once already, Madoka saves Homura's Soul Gem from becoming fully corrupted with a Grief Seed she had been hiding, and requests Homura to prevent her from becoming a Puella Magi, before asking Homura to shoot her Soul Gem, so that she won't become a witch. This leads to Homura's new goal as of the fourth timeline onward: to save Madoka, no matter how many times it takes, by preventing her from becoming a Puella Magi.

Samples
First Person Sample: [There's some minor fumbling with the Gear, as Homura figures out how to work the device.]
Excuse me... I don't want to bother anyone, but...
Um... t-this isn't some kind of joke, right? "The world of Pokémon"? It sounds like a game I used to play, but... Ah-- um... anyway, so this isn't Mikihara? I-I'm really confused, to be honest.
I guess I'm bothering everyone with these silly questions, huh... [Or at least that's what Homura thinks. It's a little embarrassing to not know a lot of this, but she does have at least one or two more questions before she'll more than likely turn off the Gear to save herself from humiliation.]
Ah-- um, before I go anywhere... has anyone... seen any of my friends? It's alright if you haven't, I guess... b-but I'm especially looking for one of them. Her name is Kaname Madoka, and she's about my age, with pink hair tied up with red ribbons, and...
... I-It would be nice if someone has seen her, anyway.
Third Person Sample: Johto was a really weird place, in Homura's opinion. Waking up in a house that wasn't hers, with some lady claiming to be her mother was strange enough, yes, but to be shoved out the door and left on her own to... fend for herself? In this new world? Was enough to last Homura a lifetime, if she hadn't already been through some unbelievable events before that topped this. Still, it was unnerving to find herself alone, with just an... elephant? Elephant-like? ... A Pokémon, in any case, as her only companion. Where were her friends? Were they alright without her? These questions continued to bug the teen as she made her way down the only road leading out of New Bark Town.
"Um..." she finally spoke aloud, after a long silence, "I-I hope you don't mind traveling with me, um...."
... Oh, she still needed to come up with a name for her companion, didn't she? Just 'Phanpy' seemed unoriginal, and, well... lazy. Homura wouldn't have been too terribly surprised if it was alright to just leave it at that, but she felt like she should give her Pokémon partner a name, anyway, as if it would make their partnership more... 'official'-sounding. (Was that even possible? Would she have to name all of her future Pokémon to make them 'hers'? It all sounded so weird.)
"I-I'm sorry, I don't think I have a name for you yet..." Homura apologetically told her Phanpy, "But... I'll b-be sure to come up with a name for you soon, alright? That's... t-that's okay with you, isn't it?"
"Phanpy. Phan!"
Homura wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean, exactly, but she'd take it as a sign that it was, indeed, alright for now. Well, with that out of the way... it seemed like for now, the only remaining objective would be to reach the next town, right?
Maybe she'd find some answers there.
