He'd tried out each gun on a few trees, and was still spattered with bits of blue and yellow paint as he went along with his day. There was probably even some in his hair he hadn't caught yet.
When he came across Alice near the waterfall, he was unsurprised by what she was doing. And a little wary, too - he was pretty good with a sword now, but something about her kukris made John extremely uncomfortable.
It was probably the potential of losing a limb. "Hey."

"Hi," she said. "I was just thinking about you." Hopefully he wouldn't take that the wrong way, but - huh. Something was different about him. It took her a second to realize what it was, and when she did, she stopped sharpening the kukri.
"Why are you covered in paint? Are you renovating your hut or something? I never pegged you for an interior design kind of guy." She hiked up an eyebrow.
