"It's just me," Capa answered, pausing in his approach and he almost felt like he should raise his hands, show her that they were empty. He didn't go quite that far, however, just remained where he was and offered Alice a faintly hopeful smile. Hopeful that she'd decide not to stab him, hopeful that he might be able to come sit down.
Even after all this time on the island, he felt like he knew far too few people. Even Alice felt like a stranger sometimes. "Is it okay?"
Alice relaxed - a little - as soon as she recognized Capa's voice. "Yeah," she said, putting her kukri down next to the other and buffing the sharpening stone on her jeans as she turned. He was smiling, so she smiled back.
Capa nodded and came closer, not yet inviting himself to sit down beside her, but hanging close to her shoulder, looking at the knives. "Any reason?" he asked, wondering if she'd tell him or if he'd be left with no information. Most of the time he couldn't blame her for not wanting to share information on the island.

"Sorry, Cap. I've been a little jumpy lately."

"It's almost Halloween," she said. "I turned up here on Halloween two years ago."
