There are only a few things you really have to know about Ganados and the like when you're fighting them, certain little details about them that make the different than your garden variety zombies.

Ganados (spanish for 'cattle') really aren't too zombie-like, to begin with. They really just appear to be slightly dishelved, pissed-off people with poor hygiene. They can organize themselves, use tools and weapons, do simple problem solving and communicate with one another. They are, really, hive-minded creatures that both communicate verbally and through the parasites in them.

And these parasites are known as Las Plagas (spanish for 'the plagues'). They're advanced parasitic organisms that overtake a creature's nervous system and adapt them to suit both them and their hosts' survival. You're not in any danger of being infected by them unless you were injected with a Plaga egg. (Or, well, breathed in some of their airborne spores, but that's something we won't use in this Nexus onslaught unless there's genuine interest with people having to deal with being infected. If so, pipe up and we'll see what we can do to make your pup miserable.)

A Ganado is a lot like a person who is basically very, very angry and favors melee weaponry, even though a few ARE capable of using firearms. They don't shamble like zombies do; they have all the same mobility as a human, stalking, running and above-average jumping skills. They have unnatual strength, enough to toss about a full-grown man like a ragdoll. They prefer to attack en masse and swarm their victim(s) and they can coordinate themselves via their link to one another through Las Plagas. They also seem to have a high tolerance for pain; several gunshot wounds to the body or even the face will only slow it down. But enough shots WILL drop them eventually.

The most effective way to dispose of a Ganado is to destroy the head. But even then, this isn't always a surefire thing because some Ganados (about 1 out of every 10) will, upon head removal, shortly grow tentacles tipped with razorsharp bones from their neck and continue to shamble about, whipping around these deadly implements. It takes a solid shot to the core of the exposed parasite or a great deal of physical stress to the body of the host before these are down for good.

Upon death, a Ganado's body will just bubble into goo and decompose in a matter of seconds, leaving no trace behind.

Ganados are also hyper-sensitive to light and sudden flashes thereof. A Ganado will be blinded for a short time if they're hit with a strong burst of light, such as that done by a flash grenade or Lumos spell or somesuch. And an exposed Plaga will die instantly if subjected to a strong burst of light.

There are other critters that will possibly make appearances in this war, such as Los Gigantes, Novistadors, Los Colmillos and Del Lago.

Basic overviews/differences with these beasties would be:

Los Gigantes: Spanish for 'the giant(s)', these are creatures infected with Las Plagas that grew to enormous size; roughly thirty feet. They are uncontrollable and unstoppable, attacking by punching, crushing, stomping and throwing or hitting with large objects. The only way to take one down is to attack its body enough until its parasite is revealed somewhere on its body, leaving that vunerable to attacks as well.

Novistadors: Translates literally to 'no see the man', refering to their unique eyesight. Bug-like mutations of Las Plagas. They are capable of flight and spewing acid. They can climb walls and blend into their surroundings, rendering them invisible. They also favor slashing at their prey with their sharp foreclaws that are capable of decapitation if well-aimed, and kicking their victims to the ground with their strong hind legs, either sending them flying or sprawling and leaving them as easy targets. They can also pick up a human being with relative ease and carry them into the air. They are quick, but otherwise a bit frail and are easy to take down, provided you can get a bead on them in time.

Los Colmillos: Spanish for 'the fangs', these are basically just large dogs and/or wolves infected with Las Plagas. They are more or less like normal attack dogs, quick and relentless, jumping and biting for their attacks. But then can also have tentacles burst from their back and whip and lash at their targets. Like Novistadors, they're quick and tenacious, but relatively frail.

Del Lago (Sorry, no decent pictures!): Spanish for 'from the lake', Del Lago is a huge Plaga mutation that resembles a salamander. It has sharp, shark-like teeth, tentacles from inside its throat, and vast bulk. Its strictly aquatic and will prowl around beneath the surface, eating anything that comes into its body of water. It can take absurd amounts of punishment before it's actually taken out. Beware!
