The sad thing about Elizabeth Dole

Oct 30, 2008 00:24

So, you may or may not have heard about the NC Senate seat under contest right now. Elizabeth Dole has chosen the low road, it seems.

My question to you is this: what kind of country do we live in where saying someone doesn't believe in God gives weight to the notion that that person is unfit for office?

So much for no religious test.

Because Jesus is our Lord and Savior (tm), and I don't want no unbelieving commie Muslim terrorist in charge of me.

Just believing in a different God will get you tons of negative attention in most rural areas or red states. (In some heavily evangelical places, that includes being Catholic.) Sadly, atheists are further down the pecking order than those who believe in different Gods in most places.

Walter comes to mind. "Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."

Yeah, the most amusing part about the firey tone of Christian evangelism is the way in which other Christians are doing it wrong.

Hey, by the way? Welcome to North Carolina! Could be worse, Palin considers herself to be the first "real" Christian of Wasilla. Her predecessor was a Lutheran.

Yeah, it's kind of a duh in some respects, especially coming from someone of the older generation. But the worst part about the ad is that it sticks for no good reason other than that it synchronizes with other things that the target audience wants to believe.
