We had a fabulous time on a trip to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands when we were a little fried and down a couple of years ago (and we came back to job offers, to boot). As I recall, it was not overly expensive. It was great fun.

At very least, the hubby and I would *love* to hang out with you. Sooner if possible, but if the beginning or end of your vacation is easier, that would be great too :)

Dubrovnik is totally awesome, and cheap by Euro-standards, though I think not compared to Latin America.

How about the Dominican Republic? Friends of mine went 2 years ago and absolutely loved it.
