Eclipse

Eclipse drives me fucking batty. I could write a big rant about it, but this guy explains it pretty much perfectly (just global replace Emacs with Vim for me).

Apparently IntelliJ is pretty good though; maybe I should try it some time. But it is tailored toward Java (not that Eclipse isn't), so it's not exactly generic like Vim.

Eclipse is the scum of the earth. While I was teaching intro CS labs I actually got to watch the damn program get worse with every update. It also randomly did completely inexplicable and horrible things to a small percentage of my students.

IntelliJ in contrast is the best IDE I've ever used. I makes all other IDEs appear as pale, under-featured wraiths.

Netbeans is a good compromise, since it's about half way to IntelliJ and it's free. ;)

Agh, I forgot to reply to this! Just wanted to say thanks for the feedback; it is very useful. It's good to know I'm not the only one who has had problems with Eclipse. I oughta play with NetBeans some time. I have one grad student using it, and I also have one undergrad using Xcode, which I should also try... I guess.
