Totally not okay

At what point does one call the cops for theft and home invasion?

Value of stolen items, as best I can tell, is fairly low: half the alcohol I brought from Sweden and $15 cash. But other things touched would hold a fingerprint well.

I'd call and report it. If there is a series in the area every report helps establish a pattern. I mean, they won't be able to do anything to get your booze back, but your case might be one of many.

My case is 2 days in a row - that sounds awful targeted to me. I suspect someone I live with

I would totally file the report in that case. It might scare them off of doing it again.

it'd be the fact that people were in your home that I'd be calling about. Just because they didn't steal anything of value this time doesn't mean they won't, and it also doesn't mean they won't be back for something else that could mean physical danger to your person. :(

Yeah. No matter what, installinga working lock on my door. I didn't really feel safe leaving to work today, but a girl's gotta do... I just don't want to waste police time either

as someone else suggested, it may indicate a pattern that they're already aware of. Also, it's possible that these people have a record and are in violation of parole.

My parents had a similar thing happen to them. They stole a bottle of vodka, a bottle of what they probably thought was some sort of booze (it was a vitamin supplement) and about $25 in change from a change jar. The cops won't do much, probably won't even print but you should still report it to the police. At the absolute minimum, they will patrol your area more for the next week to see if someone is stupid enough to do it again. Also, you'll need the police report if you need to file for repairs to your door/window with your insurance company. Or your landlord will need it.

I'm so sorry. i know how awful it is to know that someone was in your home. Even if it was likely some punk kid looking to get drunk, it doesn't make you feel very safe. ♥

Likeliest suspect? My roommate. The one that hates me for being a loner, who is having severe financial issues. It wasn't just random kids, otherwise it would not be 2 days in a row that my room was invaded. I assumed it was just someone fucking with me, I didn't realize things were stolen until this morning. I hope the police will at least try some fingerprinting...

Also, locks undamaged. The lock to my room was already broken, the house locks are intact although I cannot promise doors were locked - the roommate that hates me and I have fought over the necessity of locking the house. I know when I left, doors were locked. I am fairly sure the intrusion Saturday occurred within an hour of when I left. I can't speak for Sunday.

i'm definitely on the calling-the-cops thing. It's not about the value of the items stolen, it's about your sense of safety in your home.

Only half the alcohol, though? That's...odd.
