If you want a good laugh (and a lot of sighing) then I suggest reading up on how different Christian denominations feel about homosexuality. Oh so much facepalming. Especially when what I'm reading the beliefs are directly contradict my own knowledge of denominations that have gay clergy.

Even thinking about Christianity can induce rage-blackouts for me. I try to avoid religion as a whole all together.

I'm (allegedly) writing a story about an anchorite, as in someone walled into a church. Which means a certain amount of research is helpful. And then I got sidetracked... Being in church makes me rage, but researching it is okay because I'm not face to face with hypocrisy.

Well, even with one denomination, there can be a million different viewpoints., regardless of the official stance (or lack thereof).

True. Beliefs vary person to person. Still, this was my favorite finding, a quote by Jeffrey John, a former bishop with Church of England, if I'm reading things right, forced to step down because he's gay. "I was very struck by David Cameron's statement that he is in favour of same-sex marriage, not in spite of being a Conservative but because of being a Conservative. I am not a political animal, but I want to say something very similar as a priest. I am in favour of same-sex marriage not because I am a wild liberal but because I am instinctively a traditional Anglo-Catholic."

That is indeed a wonderful quote.

Have you read much about Gene Robinson? He's the Episcopalian priest who was elected as the first openly gay bishop in the US. His story is really interesting...he got so many death threats after his election as bishop, and yet continued on.

Also, one of my mom's friends is a former accountant who want back to school in her 50s to become a Methodist minister. Probably one of the first gay women to be ordained in that church. She's AWESOME.
