Brainstorming without a brain

Right now I’m trying desperately to come up with an idea for my short story that’s due this Thursday for English class. So far I’ve got nothing. Really, I think what we’re writing may be less of a short story and more of a single moment in a character’s life - one little event with its own dramatic arc that doesn’t exactly wrap up the person’s character development.

A short story is just that, Jack: A single moment in a character's life. But at the same time, it's more. It's not just ANY single moment. It's the single MOST IMPORTANT moment in a character's life... at least, so far. A moment that brings with it necessary change, that demands growth.
