i should have guessed that i wouldn't agree with the livejournal community, since they're all pretty dumb, but i guess it was my pessimism over many people's new albums that lead me to believe i would hate the new aesop ep. but it's good. really good. aesop has not become a parody of himself, nor have his lyrics gotten worse, nor has his ( Read more... )

The song with El-P and Camu Tao is actually my favorite.

The EP is okay, but it doesn't touch Float, Daylight, Appleseed, Music for Earthworms, or Labor Days.

I will agree with you that Aesop's production is on par with the other Def Jux producers, but that's because most of Def Jux's stuff is hit and miss production wise.

i guess the production is somewhat hit and miss...except i think el-p's shit is always perfect. he's set a standard for the rest of them and some don't always make it. aesop has done an ok job of being as good as him...and he's getting there on this ep.

the ep is not the best thing he's done, but it's not as bad as a person's newest shit can be. and the rickety rackety song just doesn't say as much as i'd like a song to say.

I think that some songs can just be feel good hiphop. This music was founded as dance and party music, the messages came later, and I think it's good to have songs that remind us of that. That's why I like Rickety Rackety.

I on the other hand find El-P to be one of the most hit and miss producer's out there. He has some dope stuff, but a lot of his production is downright awful. To his credit, he did do The Cold Vein and that was good, but he also did Fantastic Damage, and that CD has a lot of production which does nothing but be noisy and distract from the vocals. And as Def Jux producers go, RJD2 produces circles around El-P.

A good example of a solid producer? Stoupe, Premier, RJD2, Hi-Tek...

Those guys come with good beats almost every single time.

i don't know what "the messages came later" even means. at the beginning, for some it was about dance and party music, for some it was about messages, and for some it was about both. it's still the way it is today. we just pick and choose accordingly ( ... )
