[Should anyone happen to be within viewing distance of the area close to the western river today, not too far away from the village, they may be treated to an interesting sight - that is, they might just get to witness a geyser of water spontaneously sprouting from the ground beneath a log, blasting it off into the distance.

If one should choose ( Read more... )

Not that we have any control over. [Because yes, the power cap has gone down while she was here, but it wasn't anything they could do a thing about of course.]

[Hm. Not a very reassuring answer, but it does bring up another question.]

Ah, so there have been times when the limitations subsided without a villager's interference, then? [That's the impression he's getting from her response, at least.]

A few months back there was an earthquake that caused many things to not work correctly, including whatever it is that suppresses our powers.

An earthquake? Not one of natural causes, I suppose? [Going by what the guide had mentioned, a natural earthquake strikes him as... rather unlikely in an environment like this, to say the least.]

No, although they're supposedly removed in the warzone. I'm not sure how'd you'd volunteer for being drafted though.

[...What.]

Warzones? The drafts mentioned in the guide still occur, then?

Correct. I can't verify it personally though, so you'd have to ask someone who's been there.

...I suppose I should do so, yes. [Time to add that to the list of things to do. If this is true... well, saying he's happy about this would be a pretty blatant lie.]

No, there isn't. And if there was, I doubt anyone would be willing to tell you through these books. But so far, I don't know of any way to reverse it and I've been trying to figure it out for a while now.

...

Hmn. But they do let the power capacity slide occasionally. They seem to have it pretty controlled, though so don't get any ideas. And even when they do, it's only when it's convenient for them.

[He wouldn't mind taking the conversation off the journals if need be, but... ah well.]

Ah, you have been attempting to find a way to reverse the limitations? A noble endeavor. [He almost sounds a little impressed.]

Aside from the earthquake and the drafts, do you recall any other occasions when the limitations were lifted?

[The answers he got so far seem to point toward "no" as the answer, but it couldn't hurt to ask one more person.]

[Debate, debate. Some paper shuffling.]

Meet me at the center of town in an hour.

[...Oh? So there's likely something that she doesn't want to mention over the journals. Hm.]

Very well. I shall see you in an hour, then. [In fact, he'll likely be there a little earlier than he needs to be. It's not as if it'll take him long to get there, fortunately.]

[It doesn't take long for Alex to take note of the new arrival, his eyes quickly darting over to the Venus Adept once he speaks up.

...Of all the people he could encounter in this place. Hm. He doesn't recall seeing any mentions of him when he was leafing through the journal, which means...]

No. I was merely experimenting. [He's hardly having any trouble. Unless being... mildly annoyed by the power limitations counts.]

I assume you have only recently arrived?

Of course not. Like you, I am still what others in this world refer to as a New Feather.

[And even if this was back in their own world, he was hardly hiding. Not in recent times, at the very least.]

Unfortunately, the means to do so have not been discovered. Your full powers are available when you're drafted for battle, though there is the trade-off in that filial magic is then not able to be used.

So I have been told. [Unfortunate. It's good to know that there are times when the limitations are not present, but when one of these requires going out to battle... He can't say he's all that thrilled by that thought.]

By "filial magic", I assume you refer to the magic granted by the spirits? [He'd read about them in the guide - that was one of the other subjects that had caught his attention. Magic like that might be useful for augmenting his Psynergy... Hm.]

Yes, that's right. The various spirits in this realm teach magic, provided you form some kind of bond with them. Some are pickier than others, but an affinity for an element sometimes helps.

Am I right in recalling that these elements are earth, water, fire, wind, electricity, light and [ ... ] healing?

[...Not too different from the elements in his world, aside from Jupiter and Mercury being split into two different elements and light being added.]
