Series/Fandom: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R1
Character's Name: Euphemia li Britannia
Character's Sex: Female
Character's Age: 16
Canon point: Post-Death, Episode 23
Abilities:
Unfortunately, Euphemia has no unique abilities at her disposal. She is merely a young woman of high ranking order. However… she does have one flaw. She is Geassed. Geassed to ‘kill all the Japanese’. This was a command accidentally given by her brother, Lelouch, and what ultimately led to her demise. Since she was unable to complete this task, the command is still present. For the moment, however, it remains dormant unless otherwise trigged by the right words like calling yourself Japanese. Other than that, she’s completely harmless. Mostly harmless.
Background:
Euphemia was born as the third princess in line to the throne of Britannia. She was raised in a very large family consisting of many brothers and sisters all from different mothers. However, only few had the privilege of gaining her trust, some closer to her than others. Euphemia was considerably close to her sister Cornelia and shared a unique bond to Lelouch and Nunnally. She spent her youth sharing fond memories with her siblings, growing an interesting adoration for her brother Lelouch and a close relationship to Nunnally. Naturally, she was devastated at the news of their sudden disappearance. Left to believe the worst in their fate, Euphy spent the rest of her childhood keeping close ties to Cornelia while fondly missing the two.
As she began to come to age, Euphemia started her days of school only to be pulled out early when the unfortunate fate of her brother Clovis put her in the position to act as Sub-Viceroy to Area-11. This was a rank she was not at all fond of but one she did anyway for the sake of her sister and her own curiosity of the country. That curiosity eventually led to her sneaking out of her window, only to fall straight into the arms of Suzaku. Although concerned of her identity, Euphemia decided to take advantage of the situation by stating that she was being chased by bad guys. This ultimately led to doing the very thing she wanted to do except a little easier with Suzaku playing a tourist guide. Their evening comes to an end after a confrontation where Jeremiah was at the risk of being assassinated by his own comrades. Suzaku intervenes but the battle is ultimately put to a stop when Euphemia reveals her true identity as a Princess. She realizes how much both she and Suzaku have in common-to be rid of the war and for the bloodshed amongst loved ones to end.
She is later seen attending an event at the Lake Kawaguchi Convention Center Hotel. What was meant to be a blissful event while under disguise took a turn for the worse when the Japan Liberation took both her and a group of other tourists’ hostage. After watching them vehemently mistreat the hostages, Euphemia uses her rank to allow the hostages to gain their freedom. At the same time, Zero has made an appearance and Geassed the group to kill them off. He eventually lifts his gun in attempt to do the same, but changes his mind and lets her live after leaving her with the haunting words of the fact she “hasn’t changed”. After this event, Cornelia decides to persuade her sister into acquiring a Knight. While there is much talk around the possibility of who she intends to chose, she eventually comes to the decision of making Suzaku her Knight after witnessing his confrontation on screen only to overhear the negative remarks made by the nobles within the room about Japanese.
With her new Knight in tow at the Shikine Island Base, they are met with an unexpected confrontation with the Black Knights, forcing Suzaku to play as bait to hold Zero while they pulled in for the kill. In protest, Euphemia abandoned the rest and used a Knightmare to get to him in enough time to save him. She never made it. She eventually wakes up soaking wet while staring down the barrel of Zero’s gun. Yet after their meeting in the hotel, she reveals his identity and convinces him to remove his mask. There they reunite as brother and sister where she learns about his life up until this point and the reasons behind his actions as Zero. Of course, who she is speaking with is not Zero, but Lelouch. They are eventually rescued off the island after an awkward reunion with Suzaku and Kallen.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t exactly make a stand-up impression on the island when he is geassed by Lelouch to “live”. Though he is reluctant to remain her Knight after failing to seize Lelouch, she convinces him to stay and even goes as far as to proclaim her love for him (out of the blue). Happy and in love, Euphemia ultimately decides for both Suzaku and her family to try and come up with a plan to put an end to all the causalities once and for all. After finding Nunnally at the Academy during the fair, the reunion with both her and Lelouch makes her ultimately decide what she truly is striving for, thus what prompts her to announce her plan to the world while inviting Zero to be part of her plan for the Special Administration Zone for Japan. Unbeknown to her, this only angers Lelouch since it contradicts with his own plans. Fueled by either jealous or hatred, Zero attends the ceremony in attempt to ‘soil her hands with his blood’ once they are alone and away from the audience. But just as he is ready to geass her, she reveals to him that she had dropped her title, rank and name all for the sake of supporting Zero. Not for Lelouch, but all so Nunnally can live a happy life with her brother and nothing else. Surprised by her selfless actions, Lelouch agrees and even begins to confide in her about his ability, using an example right as his Geass is activated permanently. An example like oh say … kill all the Japanese.
And she does. Or at least she fought hard to resist it at first, but eventually she succumbed entirely and went into commando mode. Using her rank, she orders the Britannian army to kill off the Japanese while she herself participates in the massacre. With a heavy heart, "Zero" is left with little choice but to kill her with a single blow to the heart. After being escorted to safety by a mad-driven Suzaku, Euphemia's last moments are spent in the hospital bed with him by her side. Devastated that there may have been an issue, Euphemia manages to suppress the effects of the geass long enough to ask about the results of SAZ. She is relieved when Suzaku lies and informs her that the Japanese were in fact very happy allowing her to die peacefully.
Appearance:
1,
2!
Long, pink hair. That's one thing we all notice about her is her hair and the unique hair bun style she has it up in. She's known for wearing it in other ways like a ponytail, but for now she generally wears it as such. Her eyes are a violet-blue, a trait that most Britannians all seem to have. Her attire here in Discedo is her royal gown. The brooch on her collar can easily be confused for a Paopu fruit. But actually it's a rose. Or something.
Personality:
Amongst a family bred to conquer and enslave, she is among the few who lives with an entirely different purpose in mind. Euphemia is perhaps the very epitome of purity itself within the ranks of Britannia Royal Family. She is your clichéd princess in every way-caring, empathetic, and innocent to a fault, thinking only for the well-being of others over herself. In some ways it would seem she came straight out of a fairy tale, clashing with her surroundings in an era of war. She is a vigilant and easygoing character with a spark and unique brilliance that is often unmatched by others.
A social butterfly and animated conversationalist, she enjoys meeting new people regardless of rank or social status. Nevertheless, this does not make her the pinnacle of perfection as many tend to think. Her sheltered life has blinded her to the reality of things within her world thus her reasoning behind her naïve tendencies. Curiosity often entails her to seek out the truth and learn more on her own will. Whether it’s sneaking out and taking on the guise of a civilian or merely observing from afar, she has a penchant for trying to understand and see the world around her from her own perspective rather through the biased eyes of her family.
She is known for acting on impulse, making decisions purely on either her beliefs or of the heart. This tends to conflict with the beliefs of her sister, but she does it out of stubbornness that someday even her own sister will stand behind her. She is not at all a fighter, but is not afraid to take charge or see a mission through if it is beneficial in some way towards the cause of setting right within the world. It is because of this trait that she tends to look up to her older sister, admiring her prowess and abilities on the field. Their differences in beliefs is the only thing that sets them apart, but it does not stop Euphy from including her in what she hopes to accomplishes in the future, even if at the cost of her position on the throne.
Despite her clumsiness and silly behavior, Euphemia will and can take charge when action calls for it. Valuing the welfare of everyone when in regards to the current state of affairs, she believes in promoting and carrying out equality amongst all mankind. This often means speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves, and even throwing herself in the line of danger to protect others. A demonstration of this can be seen when she was held hostage at the hotel amongst a plethora of other civilians. When one of the civilians was at risk of being endangered, Euphy promptly revealed her identity to the culprits so that all attention was drawn to her instead of the innocent. She carries with her a strong-will, standing in the face of danger with a firm resolve rather than that of a damsel in distress. While she may not be the most combatant type, this does not mean she is weak. Her strength shows through her spirit and determination, the desire to see things through and do whatever it takes for it to happen-even if it means using herself as a sacrifice.
She is, as Lelouch put it so delicately, just plain little Euphy. But in the end it is her thoughtful actions and selfless behavior that somehow enables her to win. She is not entirely the brightest, wittiest, or the type to lead a command of troops, but what she lacks in this she makes up for in her ability to be compassionate in situations where others are not. Understanding and even patient, she symbolizes a princess to the very last fault.
She is a princess not because of rank, but because of her demeanor.
Strengths:
Euphemia is a character with a tremendously strong will. This means she will go to very great lengths to prove a point or stand by a certain belief. She has charged into battle not once but twice to prevent conflict, risking her own life to see to it that others are left unharmed. If there is reason for her to intervene or step into a situation that is potentially dangerous, she will do it. All that matters is setting things right while disregarding her own safety.
She's compassionate and empathetic like your traditional Disney princess, able to listen to others and give people the benefit of the doubt unlike the other member's of her family. She's easily able to forgive and look past the faults of others if she sees reason to believe they are capable of being better people. A good example would be the fact that even though she knew Lelouch was the source behind Clovis' death, she still wanted to help him by starting SAZ. Not many can openly forgive as easily as she can, but maybe that's more of a blind case of judgment than strength.
Weaknesses:
As mentioned earlier, she is very impulsive with everything that she does. While it can easily be looked at as a form of strength, this is also ultimately one of her weaknesses. She is known for constantly putting herself into dangerous situations where she is unable to fight or likely to be killed. It's evidence to her lack of self-preservation, willing to put herself in harm's way for the sake of others. It may be an act of bravery but at the same time can be seen as very foolish to others. Naive like a kid with ice cream.
There’s also the fact that she is not a combative person. She knows how to use a Knightmare but prefers to refrain from combat in any shape or form. This ultimately makes her a very easy target for just about everything, especially in a setting where Heartless lurk about and danger has a tendency to crawl from any corner. She is simply a civilian with nothing to contribute but her wisdom, kindness, and impulsive decisions. Despite what she is unable to do, that isn't to say she won't at least try to make an effort to be useful in other areas.

Oh my... what a strange little device this is. Hello? Hello? Can you all hear me out there?
[She giggles. The sound of tapping is heard against the mic area of the device.]
Well if you can hear me, I hope that someone out there can help me! I appear to be lost. Although this little teddy creature- ... Uhm, forgive me. But I never did get your name?
I'm a Moogle, -kupo!
-Ah! Yes, this moogle was very kind to show me how to properly use this device.
Any assistance would be lovely. Thank you!

It’s strange, but when I try to think back on the events that led to this, nothing seems to come through. I never thought I could forget something so important as to the results of my very own idea. Although, I distinctly remember that Suzaku said that the Special Administrative Zone of Japan event was a huge success.
If all went well, I'm sure I have no reason to really be upset. So as long as my plan worked, that's all that should really matter at this moment. Still, I wish I could have been there to witness it in the making. And to share it with Suzaku.
I wonder what that moogle meant about 'darkness'. I certainly don't remember being swallowed whole by that. Although, I do remember... -No, I have to focus. It's important for me to return home. One way or another, they need me. I will just have to fight the odds here as I have back home.
...and Sister, I hope you can forgive me.

There really was just too much to think about while living here. Since her arrival a few days ago, not only did she manage to unite with familiar faces, but also acquire some new ones along the way. Looking back, none of it really made any sense. For Euphemia, this was just a massive set-back on what she was hoping to accomplish back at home. Right when everything was about to be set right, here she was in the aftermath of some other destroyed civilization. However, there were some things she was equally grateful for as well. Her situation here would have been far graver had Lelouch never made himself known to her. His presence alone allowed her to accept her fate easier than if she had been here all alone. It was something she was grateful for, even if the reason behind his being here remained fuzzy. Ironically, she got what she wanted - a chance to spend time with Nunnally and Lelouch again. Yet this wasn’t exactly how she pictured it. Still, despite the comfort of family and new acquaintances keeping her happy, it wasn’t enough to completely erase the lingering thoughts and memories of the people she had left back home.
After the day had come to a close, Euphemia had waited for the perfect moment to sneak away from watching eyes. Being in a room with four others was harder than she thought, especially since the lack of privacy was a considerably big issue for all of them. It was likely someone would notice, but it didn’t stop her from at least trying to slip out unnoticed into the main halls of the complex after shutting the door gently behind her. They’d forgive her, she thought. The worst that would happen is that they’d call for her, and the place she had in mind would easily allow for her to hear. Quickly, the Britannian princess made her hustled her way up the several flights of stairs, hoping by some chance that the exit to the roof was unlocked. Since outside was too dangerous for solo travel, the roof sounded like a perfectly reasonable location at acquiring the solitude she had wanted while remaining within safe range of anyone who may have been on lookout for her. As she made her way up the final set of stairs, her eyes widened at the sight of the exit just at the top of the stairs. With luck, the exit to the roof was unlocked, and she wasted not a moment slipping past the doors and out onto the roof.
There was nothing beautiful about this place at night. The sky was grim and the air was unbearable putrid, a mixture of the lingering scent of blood and beastly remains permeated the area with its essence. She didn’t care, because in some odd way she had grown rather used to it. It was still away from the others that made living in the confinement of the apartment so difficult. With fists clenched, the princess huffed and attempted to try and relieve some stress by kicking random debris seen on the ground. But after several successful kicks, one proved to be a match for her. She winced and uttered a soft cry when the object proved to be far too heavy to be kicked, deceived by its size. So much for that. Lately, her attire had become a bit of an inconvenience for her. With no other set of clothes to change into, her lavish gown was the only thing she possessed and the only thing that seemed to drag her down in situations that called for quick movement. She wasn’t getting much done when her dress kept getting snagged by random cracks and debris, nor was it doing any good when it only slowed her down. The dirt and grit from the roads and floor was starting to make the hems of her gown filthy, grungy, and even a bit tattered.
Carefully, she made her way over to the edge of the roof, peering over to stare below, and then cocked her head up slightly so she could gaze toward the horizon overlooking the city. A sigh passed her lips, finally a piece of mind. At home, privacy was a mere trip to her quarters, but here that luxury was simply not rewarded to her when there was barely enough rooms to sleep in. She had promised the pair that she would refrain from removing her chip, but something bothered her about it. While she did her best to apologize, it never truly vanquished her curiosity over the mystery of the elusive chip and its ability to move anywhere within her body. She shuddered, that little fact creeped her out, mostly because it was doing that inside her body. Still, what if Rolo’s explanation was right? This city did die through means of disease and other horrors, maybe the scientist were doing them a favor by installing it. But if they were able to find a means to prevent the disease from afflicting them, why didn’t they do this beforehand? Deep down she knew that removing it wouldn’t really do anything since she had no super abilities like the ones in comic books, but was it wrong to be mildly curious as to the reason of its place there and if a difference would be seen if it was properly removed?
Apparently, it was.
She didn’t mean to cause a stir between everyone, but it opened her eyes a little at just how much her family cared for her. It was a good thing they were simply looking out for her well-being, right? Of course! She could never fault them for simply being concerned. But what bothered her was the fact that the information remained concealed from her. If Lelouch or someone had simply told her in the first place, then all of this could have been avoided. Maybe he was concerned that despite his warning she'd go ahead and remove it anyway. It made her wonder if he had any faith in her. She was still little Euphy.
Between that and the small spat with Kallen, it was beginning to look as though she was more of a nuisance for them. She lacked proper combat skills, was far too unfamiliar with the area to go out unsupervised, and even in a game of Go Fish she couldn’t even help her team gain the upper hand. What use was she here if her power as royalty was meaningless? Cornelia. It was the one name that came to mind when she thought about how one of her rank proves them to be of use. If only she could be like her, especially now. Then people like Lelouch and even Kallen would give her some credibility and maybe even trust her a bit with information that they seemed to be withholding from her. It was a selfish wish right now, but she'd do anything to have her sister here this very moment just to hear her tell her things would be okay. To see her and especially to see-
“...Suzaku.”
That ... didn’t help. The thought of him right now dragged her mood even further downward. What Kallen said back there had hurt, but the fact that Lelouch had neglected to share information to her hurt the most. Well, at least Nunnally seemed equally as lost as she was, but for some reason she had thought they would have looked to her as an maybe somewhat of an adult and not a complete child like Nunnally. In a small way, she was being treated the way she was at home. Not allowed to speak, not allowed to act, and more or less just doing whatever she was told. Why bring her here to this awful place if all she was going to do was hold them back? She bit down on her lower lip while her fingers clenched the stone railing of the building side. This is what she wanted, the small bit of privacy to finally let her emotions come out. Up here, she could finally shed the few tears she was holding back for so long.
Ah, but a good cry is not always a bad thing.
