Sometimes it's hard to pick up and keep going on with the normal stuff. Especially when the holiday break wasn't so much of one with the trying to track down Maddie's killer. Riley's been seeming a little frustrated with the evidence gathering. New Years kind of came and went without much celebrating ( Read more... )

I walked up slowly as she walked from one of the buildings. My feelings erupted at the sight of her...want to snap her neck right now. Took a breath. Took another. Walked around so that I was behind her. Could smell her perfume. Could smell her sadness. Would smell her fear, her anguish.

I smiled. Bitch thinks she can do this to ME!?

I tap her on the shoulder. I wait for her to turn around.

I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around, figuring it's someone wanting directions or something. "Uh, huh?" I say absently.

The guy standing there looks kind of familiar, but it takes a minute to place him. I shift my books to one arm and brush a strand of hair out of my face, thinking he looks a little agitated or something. Then it hits me...he's the nut that punched me for no good reason in the Magic Box that time.

I shift the books again, ready and willing to use them for defensive purposes even if they did cost a couple hundred bucks. "You! I know you!" I say. "Hope you've been away getting some quality psychiatric help. Or maybe in jail for assault?"

A crazed smile spreads across my face.

"Killed him. Brought myself back, and another like me too!" I stop smiling abruptly. "I mean...you know what it's like," I say through clenched teeth. You're the opposite. And since we are opposites, one...one has to die."

I get in a fighting stance. "Sorry bitch...but it's gonna be you. And Cain will get a little faith in his new job!" I pause, ready to fight.

"Mkay, that's a big 'no' on the psychiatric treatment," I mutter, tossing the books to the ground and turning to face him, bringing an arm up to block his blow. Damn, this guy is strong. I wonder if he's one of Stone's flunkies, but a) he's not wearing camoflage and b) I'm not getting that vamp sense from him.

"So, I'm the opposite of what, exactly?" I ask, fairly curious in spite of starting to get a little pissed off. He's talking some weird mixed up jumble that sounds kind of religious and kind of Star Trek-y, like matter and anti-matter destroying each other. Besides, always a good idea to find out exactly what the bad guys want, even if they aren't playing with a full deck.
