I'm stomping along, determined to cover the west side of town tonight, when I hear someone call my name from behind. I whirl, and the crossbow I'm carrying turns with me, aimed dead on some kid who so should not be out this time of night, in this part of town.

"Do I know you?" I ask.

I blink. "You found her? How? And more to the point, where?"

I lower the crossbow when his arms go up, but keep it armed but pointed down. "You're darn right you can't go in by yourself. I'm not even dumb enough to try that..." Wait, that came out wrong. "I mean, the va--the guys who have her are way too tough for one person."
