This pissed me off SO much. How dare he say BP is being denied due process? The very hearing where he was speaking is part of an ongoing investigation in which every party will have their say. BP has ACCEPTED responsibility. Regardless of who drove the establishment of a $20 billion escrow, let us accept it as a show of BP's willingness to start paying restitution/damages, and such fund's independent oversight as the best solution for the near-term. No one is denying a corporation due process or a day in court--and in the end, there will be plenty of money to be made with the usual bribes campaign donations as well as by attorneys representing all parties.
But maybe this escrow will ensure that at least some money goes back to the actual residents of the Gulf who depend on the water for their livelihood.
I will NEVER forget his misplaced apology and his tossing out a concept like "a twenty billion dollar shakedown," and any of his constituents who aren't outraged are being partisan in the most foolhardy way.
