I was thinking that you (and perhaps Cogshiftingman too) were participants in said cutting-edge fashions ;-p and so in light of that I was trying to be careful and use the phrase "recent history"...

My mum was VERY old-fashioned and wouldn't let us wear mini skirts at all. She thought they were very tarty. We did the white lacy tights, chalky lipstick and caterpillar-eyelashes though, and attempted the helmet hairdo's. Not easy without the gallons of hairspray we were also not permitted!
