Banned in rabble.ca (and other boring shit)

Mar 25, 2006 14:23

Nothing really interesting to report at this time. Just felt like throwing a pointless post up on the ol' LJ. That's what it's for after all. Some boring things that you shouldn't be interested in are:

1. Went and had a meeting with the prosecutor at the Provincial Offences Court for the traffic tickets. I got three of them dropped in exchange for pleading guilty to not having a valid insurance card. $65 fine instead of $400. It took longer than expected though, and sure enough I got a parking ticket for having my meter run out while I was there. At least I don't have to go to court and miss a day of work.

2. Went and saw V for Vendetta, there were some interesting parts, and some of the action scenes were pretty to look at but overall I'd say it's a movie to download / rent. I downloaded the graphic novel, which so far is only marginally better.

3. Speaking of downloading I've been downloading a bunch of 80's hardcore, punk, and metal lately. Including the entire GWAR discography!

4. I got suspended from rabble.ca for "being a jerk" but really it was because I threatened the moderator's monopoly of power by satirically posting about how many potential libel lawsuits are on the babble board, not to mention violations of the terms of service.

This is where the shit started

Here's the series of posts I made recently on babble before I was banned

Hello Audra,

I am writing to inform you that babble moderator Michelle apparently
suspended my babble account without issuing me any warning or reason.
Which I note according to the terms of service is supposed to happen
first. "Offenders generally receive warnings before being suspended.
Continued abuse could result in eventual or immediate suspension of
posting privileges."

Nothing was directly sent to me but I did find this posted by Michele

"Mick, you're being a jerk. I'm suspending your account for a week until
you calm down."

Not only did Michelle not warn me, she herself violated the rabble terms
of service by personally insulting me on the board, and then cited that
personal insult as the reason I'm suspended!

I am confused as I admitted my earlier mistake about posting a name of an
alleged sex offender and indeed afterwards sought to help babble
moderators from other possibly libellous accusations and violations of
babble's terms of service.

I even created a thread designed for community involvement in this
important process where people could bring to the moderator's attention
any violation, or libellous accusation so they could be removed. It was in
the proper Rabble reactions section.

I should have written you an email for every single violation, as per the
terms of service, however I thought it would be bad etiquette to start
sending you dozens of emails an hour, and I believe that helping the
moderators enforce a the terms of service is everyone's job and sought
participation from people who would post on the board but not take the
time to send an email.

As the terms of service state you can't possibly read every post. I just
wanted to try and help.

I understand the precarious nature of rabble and want to help protect and
preserve it from potential lawsuits and violations of the terms of
service.

I have been a user on rabble since 11 June 2002 and this has been the sole
time I have been disciplined by the moderators, again only when I decided
that you were right and sought to help in seeking out libelous accusations
or violations of the rabble terms of service.

As the moderators power on babble is outlined as unquestionable in the
terms of service I humbly submit to Michelle's decision to suspend me, but
I wanted to bring her violations of protocol to your attention.

I know, unlike the police, babble as no formal complaint system for abuse
of power but if there were one I would file a complaint in this matter.

Thank you for your attention in this matter,
Mick Black
