Thanks to those who responded to my last post. You guys are brilliant and I appreciate everything everyone of you had to say. You guys put things in a much better perspective. However, you didn't completely eliminate my cynicism. Can somebody else help me out on that one?

well, I'm of the opinion that a little cynicism is healthy... or at least, a little skepticism that leads to thoughtful criticism of those in power. i think that good critique is a powerful thing. the ability to think, form opinions and arguments, etc is indespensible, and you're going into a service profession in which you supposedly are teaching America's youth to think. it won't take with all of them, but model the behavior, give them the tools, and you will help develop good thinkers who will be voters someday. perhaps that will feed your idealism...? it does for me sometimes (on the good days)...
