Unfollowing Drama Queens

I'm sitting at the dining table this morning, opposite our youngest daughter who is getting on with school work. My other half is in the junk room, working. I have the day off. So far I have thrown a couple of loads through the washing machine, cleared the washing up, been for a cycle around town, and had a shower.

The cycling thing is my master- ( Read more... )

I couldn’t agree more with you. This is a horrendous situation for any Government to deal with. I suppose Ros and I are fortunate in both being retired - staying at home is not an imposition and we have been successful in obtaining delivery slots from local supermarkets. We do of course miss our friends and family and going out for lunch. But we have plenty to keep ourselves occupied and a lovely garden to enjoy when the weather permits.

I echo your sentiments exactly, as outlined in my recent post. Yours is less ranty and much more eloquent than mine! ;)

I had to get off Facebook for that very reason- it doesn't lend itself as a platform towards nuanced thought. In America I'm trapped between Far right Trump supporters and Far Left people who refuse to vote for Joe Biden and I just need to be away from that. LJ is more about discussion, support and understanding, at least in my experience.

My partner misses going to work. He definitely prefers to work in an office to working in the bedroom. I miss seeing our family and friends and spending time with them and just going outdoors without fear of touching my face. But overall we are fortunate to have each other and our home. I hope your life safely expands again soon to include more than housework, homework and exercise. That kind of sounds like a stereotypical mom-life.

I hear you over the "blame culture" overall and yeah I too see blogging as different or people have a tendency to be more reflective like you said. I like to write in a way where I assess the balance of situations over both sides of the fence. I guess I've a very analytical personality and that would sum it up.

Hope your knee eases off soon and doesn't hinder your cycling too much. I'd get my bike out of the shed again if it hadn't fallen apart.

I love the film "Groundhog Day" and have it in my collection along with some of the unwatched movies. I'm hopeless at sittiing and watching them on my own but I guess if I ever date again I'll have a load of movies in queue generally that have come out. It's not always easy to pin Helen down to watch one with me lol.

I blame the social internet, and the ability for people to foster their own insular bubbles filled with self-obsessed attention seeking idiocy. And yes, I realise there is a certain amount of irony involved here - given that blogs are of course insular bubbles filled with personal content - but they tend to describe life in a fairly even handed manner (or at least the good ones do) - not complain, shout, scream, and wallow. Bloggers tend to be highly introspective and reflective - rarely finger pointers or blamers.

And that's one of the many reasons LJ is the only social media platform I use. I've heard enough about places like Facebook to be completely turned off to the idea of ever opening an account there. Although LJ also has its fair share of wallowers, complainers and attention-seekers, but they don't seem to be the majority.
