Diana Gabaldon has publicly condemned, via the enthusiastic torching of several TOTAL strawpeople, all fan fiction as illegal, immoral, utterly derivative while at the same time polluting to her (apparently independently conscious) characters, and execrably written. Huh. Glad I never bought any of her books. Here is my response

I've seen a couple of people post about her rant, and I'm like...who is this person??? I've never heard of her before.

Big profic writer. Ironically, of, I think, trope-laden high adventure/romancey genre-fic books, I'm just astonished at how much an actual writer seems to misunderstand how _READING_ works. Forget the whole derivative/transformative debate.
