i saw someone's heart today. a real, live, beating human heart, off a 23-year-old boy who had pleural effusion in his left lung. and during his thoracotomy operation which i scrubbed, with his side and ribcage cut and held apart - i saw his heart. and couldn't stop looking at it. everything was red and amazing. i fell in love with the heart. and
