You don't have to be of any kind of orientation to be offended by negative gay comments. Every time I hear a kid say something in school I stop and explain that it makes me upset, so I don't think there is anything wrong with saying something.
that happens to me ALL the time, both in and out of work.
I think you should keep ignoring it. Saying something won't change anyone's opinion, and I think the only thing that it would do is out you/make you feel awkward being around these people that know you have a problem with what they have a (even not so) problem with.
I know it sucks, but the best we can do is hope that tolerance comes for future generations, since we certainly aren't currently tolerant people. Its sad.
if this is making you feel uncomfortable, then talk to the boss. you don't need to out yourself, just explain that these comments are making you uncomfortable. If he presses you for a why, I'd jsut say that you were raised to respect everyone regardless of sexual orientation. if that doesn't work, and things don't change, go to HR. no matter what your orientation, no one deserves to work in an environment they find uncomfortable. If I recall correctly, NY is a state with Orientation in it's non discrimination clauses. this is no different than jokes demeaning any minority or sex.
