CHARACTER NAME: Millions Knives
FANDOM: Trigun (manga)
BACKGROUND: Millions Knives was born the elder twin brother of Vash the Stampede. He grew up with Vash aboard a space ship with Rem Saverem, who raised them after finding them in a plant bulb. As a young child, Knives was inquisitive, curious about the “sleepers” destined to reach a new world. Because of the state of Earth (it was no longer fit for humans to live on because of their own misuse of its natural resources), Project SEEDS was drafted, forming a mass exodus of humans from Earth in search of a new planet to inhabit. Knives and Vash were both told this by Rem, and Knives always hoped that they could be friends with the people, even though they were different (i.e. plants).
Then, one day, the alarm went off in the SEEDS ship, waking up the rest of the crew. As quickly as possible, Rem hid Knives and Vash and told them not to come out. When asked if something had happened, Rem claimed that nothing had aside from a glitch. Later on, though, after the crew members returned to their respective sleeping pods, Rem lectured Knives because he had, apparently, caused the problem. At this time, they were discovered by William Conrad, one of the crew members who hadn't returned to his chamber. However, he does not compromise their secret, instead encouraging Knives and Vash, who then feel better about the whole thing.
Not long afterwards, though, Vash and Knives encounter the apparition of a girl in the hallways of the ship. They follow her and locate a room, as well as something called “The Report of Tessla.” It turned out that they weren't the first of their kind. Tessla was, and when discovered, she was experimented on until she died. They found her dissected remains floating in test tubes.
It was at that point that Knives snapped.
Whereas he had previously had the most faith in his and Vash's ability to be accepted by humans, Knives' views radically changed. Convinced that the humans would destroy him, as well as all of his siblings, Knives changed the course of all the ships and directed them to crash land on an unknown, desert planet. Then, as he, Vash, and Rem were heading to the escape pods, Rem made a snap decision to stay behind. She managed to save some of the ships, but the choice resulted in her death as the command ship burned up in the atmosphere.
Since that time, Knives has been obsessively seeking to eradicate the humans Rem sacrificed her life to save, as well as the influence Rem had upon Vash. They traveled together for some time, but while Knives sought to kill, Vash sought to save. One of their disputes ended with Knives slicing off Vash's arm.
Knives and Vash parted ways, then, and for many years, Knives sought to better understand the power he had been born with. He located William Conrad and forcibly enlisted his services to help him do so, and after much experimentation, he learned to fully control his ability to form angelic blades with his left arm. Later on, he captured Vash and experimented on him as well, wanting to know if their power was different. This experimentation, however, resulted in the destruction of July City, and Knives was seriously injured. It wasn't until years later that he recovered.
During his incapacitation, Knives' sent his servant Legato Bluesummers (a boy with psychic talents whose life he saved unintentionally from a life of slavery, and later spared spared him because of his gift) to “collect knives.” The Gung-Ho Guns were formed, and throughout the series, their purpose is clear: to torment Vash and teach him the debauchery of the human race.
This plan, unfortunately, doesn't work that well, and Vash continues to fight. However, about this time, Knives makes a startling discovery: namely, the hair-darkening effect. A plant's hair, as its power is exhausted, turns black until, finally, it dies. This realization leads Knives to merge with other plants, and eventually he becomes a near-unstoppable force that clashes with the ships from Earth.
At the end of Trigun Maximum, however, Knives is defeated by his brother Vash (who breaks up the mass of plants somehow) and sacrifices his own life to ensure that Vash will live on. And it is from this moment that Knives will enter the game.
POWER: Knives is a plant, therefore he possesses strength and reflexes beyond those of an ordinary human. He is also capable of communicating telepathically with his brethren, as well as with people who have psychic abilities (such as Legato Bluesummers). His main power, however, comes from his “Gate,” the opening through which it flows. It allows him to morph his left arm into blades that can slice through anything and elongate to any length, potentially destroying cities (as he did in Trigun Maximum Volume 6). He is also capable of firing off the Angel Arm cannon, a powerful weapon that is more than capable of incinerating a city.
This will be toned down, however, in that he will keep all of his superhuman strength/speed/agility/healing/etc stuff but will be cut off from his ability to use the the Angel Arm cannon (which could pretty much decimate the entire city, l-lol), and his blades will only be able to affect his immediate surroundings so, uh...no blowing up of the City, promise. :D;
Plus, since he pretty much runs out of power at the end of Trimax, when he comes through the Porter, it will have restored some of what he's lost while his body was being reconstituted so he will have blond hair. He'll be glad about this, of course, but also wary of how he uses it.
CLASS: Villain. He will keep his dog tags for a time, until he becomes more acclimated to his new environment. After that, we'll see.
SUPERHERO NAME: Sharpest Knife.
ALTER EGO: Millions Knives. He'll be working with computers from his residence because, uh...less contact with humans = better for everyone.
FIRST PERSON: Ridiculous.
Do they really expect me to protect them? The same disgusting creatures who butchered my sisters for over a century and did that to her?
Never. The war may be over, but this- how dare they. My life and power restored, only to be forced into the same slavery as my siblings back on the desolate piece of dirt? There was a reason I chose to die.
But fine. I'll play along with this ridiculous charade for now. And perhaps things may prove to be more interesting than I originally anticipated.
I know you're here, brother. And I will find you.
THIRD PERSON: Shattered glass fragments lay scattered about the Plant facility, the remnants of now-empty bulbs crackling as electricity surged erratically along the power lines. The sweet, pungent odor of decay permeated what was left of the room, splinters of light penetrating the gloom. He breathed it in as he cradled the ruined body of his sister close, her shriveled, blackened form melding with his.
There was pain, but he did not shy away, letting it sear him. Purge him. How ironic that it was the rotten corpses of his brethren that would accomplish this. He raised his head, eyes lifted as he rose slowly, his boots squelching slightly as he ascended from the bulb, its insides streaked with blood.
His cloak rustling gently, Knives landed gracefully on the platform of the Ark, the shifting bodies of thousands of Plant Angels beneath his feet, harmonizing voices resonating within his mind. The view was magnificent, overlooking the desecrated, sister city of Carcasses. Crumbling buildings, debris, and the dead and dying lay strewn about. What was left wouldn’t last, not even if help did arrive. The town was in its death throes, and soon the rest of Gunsmoke would follow, the last vestiges of human civilization torn down and annihilated.
He nearly smile then...but then he heard them: the whispers. They multiplied each time he gathered more Plants to himself, growing more insistent as their numbers increased. But he was stronger than they and well able to manage their influence.
Feathers brushed against his legs, ruffling in the wind as the Ark began to pull away, leaving the destruction behind. Standing at the edge of his ship’s fore, Knives guided the Ark away from Carcasses, knowing exactly where he was going. He had business to attend to. The finale was approaching. Now that Vash had made his escape along with Chapel, Knives believed that closure to their conflict was needed. He had bid his brother farewell already, but more than that was needed in order to rid himself of the attachment they both shared.
In hindsight, it was clear to him now that he and Vash had parted ways years ago, long before the present. However, Knives had persisted, instructing his brother in the true nature of the human race by using the Gung-Ho Guns. Vash’s intractable nature had rendered his efforts meaningless, though, and now Knives saw how truly flawed his brother had become, corrupted irreparably by the humans he had sworn to protect. There would be no further chances for him. Not anymore.
He shifted imperceptibly, his gaze sweeping slowly across the landscape before him as the twin suns burned overhead, a glaring heat that scorched the desert sands as well as the creatures that crawled upon it. Life and death interchanged in such a place, each a single breath away from the other as the hot, dry air shimmered like rippled water. Nothing had changed since the Big Fall, and nothing ever would. The planet’s resources were already so scarce and depleted that humans could do little damage. But they would. There was no doubt in Knives’ mind that they would. That was why they had to die.
The shadow of a smile flickered across his face, his purpose as certain as it had been the day he had discovered the necessity of the demise of the human race. More than a century had passed since then, but Knives had remained true to his calling, his mission to save his brethren and do away with the plague which was the human race.
And true he would remain, until the very last vestiges of humanity had been wiped away. Nothing could stand against him or come even close to matching him in power. No one would be able to stop him. Not even you...little brother.
