It really did joss a lot of COE canon. The betraying here was done by Ianto by neglecting his father/leaving his father/not saying goodbye to a dying man, not by his dad. If they'd had such a combative relationship, I don't think Ianto would hold back on saying 'Why would I call the man who regularly abused me? WTF?'. Mr Jones was maniupulative - what about your mother? - but so is Ianto.

You know what, I'm treating COE as an alternative universe experiment. I was unsure where it fell in my new Classic TW canon, but now, it doesn't rate at all. I might use some of the characters as I love Ianto's family, but that's it.

I'm positive this was a marketing ploy to increase revenue/ratings for MD by appeasing the fans that just wouldn't get over it, but as they aren't getting another cent from me anyway, I don't care! I got closure, I got new canon and managed to finally sort out where my line in the sand is, I'm happy!

I saw COE as AU from about five minutes after it aired. The characters were too different to interpret any other way. This? It was a good play and I'm willing to draw a straight line that at some point in Ianto's misty future he died as the result of an alien plauge (not the events of COE.) It was the timing of the thing that's problematic.

I've only read a transcript of this -seeing as I live on the 'wrong' side of the Atlantic to listen to it- and while it's great that this gave us what we wanted, it's late in the game -nearly 3 years since COE was filmed & 2 since it aired

also, 1) Gwyneth was dead when she closed the rift in Doctor Who's "the unquiet dead"
now it's Ianto.
2) I almost expected Lisa to show up _again_
let's hear it for recycling ^_^
