We switched to dreamhost from site5 due to the outages and issues we were experiencing. Dreamhost isn't perfect, but they've been much more responsive and timely when we do have issues.

We jumped from Site5 to Dreamhost and have been pretty happy.

I've been very happy with my VPS from Slicehost (referral link. heheh.), although the VPS route might be a bit more work than you're looking for.
