Recently I got to spend some quality time channel surfing while I dealt with a bout of bronchitis and one of the daytime TV ads that caught my eye was one which offered a loan of up to $5,075... in minutes ( Read more... )

Well they put on a better suit and got a lenders license so now they are just predatory lenders instead of loan sharks.

Good point. I suppose this is the other shoe dropping on the sub-prime lending mess. What better way to make a bad mortgage situation worse than to take a terrible loan like this to cover a late payment.

I recently volunteered to teach a high school class on financial responsibility. A big part of it was pointing to offers like that and saying "DON'T DO THAT!"

Yikes ... I'm pretty sure that's illegal, yes? Unfortunately, a lot of the people taking those loans are the ones who are too young or too dumb to read the fine print ... or too desperate to care ...
