Geekhalla!

"If there was an Oscar for geeks, I would give you one."
That's what Drew said to me last night while we were playing D&D. That's because we were playing my 4th edition pirate D&D game with the assistance of Project D&D 3000!

That's right, it's up and running (sort of). I can't quite get the interactive table portion of the project working, still need some tinkering. But I do have the projector setup over the table, projecting the map down for us. It is pretty sweet. I'm very happy with how it came out.

In non-geeky news, the Halloween party went really well. Nicki & I as Beetlejuice and Lydia in the wedding scene was a hit. Completely unrelated, Tristan and Laurel showed up as the Maitlands (the ghost couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis). Such an amazing coincidence!
Also, Dickie came as Dr. Horrible and again independently, Pat showed up as Captain Hammer. It was a party chock full o' coincidences.
The food was really good, plenty of people showed and fun times were (I hope) had by all. There were some ghost stories by the fire, kicked off by me reading "October in His Chair" by Neil Gaiman. Pat, Kyle and Missie all shared ghostly tales of a more personal nature. It was a nice touch that I plan to implement in parties to come.
The night capped off with some be-costumed Guitar Hero World Tour.

As an aside, I really enjoy that game. We played until 4 AM last week, after going out for Kyle's birthday. Good freakin times.

On a very down side, I purchased four tickets to go see the new winter Cirque du Soleil show in NYC back at the beginning of the summer. Had been really looking forward to that trip and show. Except the show was November 3rd and we didn't check the tickets until a couple days ago. What a fucking tragedy. Apart from the $300 gone, I really wanted to make the trip to NYC and see this show. Really upset about that.

In a higher note, I used my combo grill/smoker for the first time Tuesday. Nicki helped me brine a turkey Monday night, then we smoked that bad boy for about four hours Tuesday afternoon. I had to finish it in the over, becuase I couldn't get the heat up high enough in the grill, but it still came out amazingly. Had a beautiful smoke ring, was juicy and tender. A perfect Thanksgiving precursor!
Mmmmm Thanksgiving! Anyone who knows me knows this is my favorite time of year! Three months with four awesome holidays.
Bang! Halloween! Boom! Thanksgiving! Wham! Christmas! Slamdangle! New Years!
I friggin love it...
