"I don't know," Edward retorted.
"Is it you?" I wondered musingly.

Harry Potter was written for kids. Northern Lights/Golden Compass was for kids. The writing didn't suffer just because of that.
Plus, I thought girls matured faster than boys? How do people get sucked into this crap?

You HAVE to admit though, you didn't exactly choose your excerpts fairly.
But you are right, it isn't the best writing. It's fluff. It's romance, it's what girls need to dream about nightly to get through the horror of high school. It's fantasy -- a guy who loves us despite our numerous imperfections who is rich and beautiful and eternal -- which is just another way to say "dangerous" -- what DOESN'T appeal to women there?
AND HE SPARKLES IN THE SUNLIGHT.
Hahaha. Sign me the fuck up. :D

Now good writing and a fresh take can overcome these things. But this?
I don't have an issue with teen girls reading it (although my friend, who read it and inspired this entry, does), but ADULT WOMEN? There is so much, rich, juicy Fiction written nowadays you could spend every hour of every day reading and never get to it all. And that's just contemporary stuff! I sometimes get sad when I think that there's so little time left to read so many great books, why waste time with this?
Buuut, it's all good. I had to get it off my chest...
