so sad, the flashback. I can't imagine how hard this would be for anyone, let alone a free and physical spirit like neal. thank goodness for sara's stubbornness.

Oh goodness, yes, I cannot even imagine how hard it is. I can romanticize and see Neal happy and accepting now, but in the beginning? It has to be painful. For Sara, wow, it had to be hard on her too, but I think Sara is a take charge person, who just saw what she had to do, and wasn't going to back down. One day I want to write a timestamp just from her perspective during those first few months, but I don't know if I could do it justice. How do you write something so heartbreaking and difficult when you haven't experienced it?

Anyway, thanks for reviewing! I hope you're enjoying despite the sadness!

That's what empathy is all about and I think any good writer possesses that in spades. I bet you'd do it justice and I'd love to read it.

Moving, the interaction between Neal and Sara. Great parent con.

Thanks! Yeah, Sara had to take charge and reassure him. I can't imagine how hard it really is, and we know Neal to roll with the punches, but this? I think this could have really broken him, so Sara had to push him through it.

Hee! Yes, it may be a 'con' but as Neal points out, every parent does it in some fashion. You have to do a lot of creative teaching when they're young.

Another amazing piece. Love Neal as a parent and how realistically you describe the adjustments that they all had to make. Wonderful story.

Thank you! We've seen Neal interact with kids, but I think being a parent is a totally different thing. It was probably a challenge initially, and most likely still will be as the kids grow up - as any parent learns, but I think ultimately Neal will love this new role.

As for the adjustments, I didn't just want to brush things to the side. I wanted to show them, but also show how they make things easier and eventually they become the norm. Maybe I don't need all the details, but again... I don't want to ignore the reality.

Peter's reactions anonymous December 28 2014, 22:21:57 UTC
Neal has been legit for over 5 years and Peter still teases him about conning his daughter or teaching his daughter to forge. Peter really needs to get over that. That is not the Neal of now. If I was Neal I would have been very angry about the comment teaching his daughter to forge.

Also Peter is inflicting his emotional distress on Neal. That is not right. He should express his loss and his hopes to stay in contact.

Funny how you were writing this before the finale where Neal did fake his death. Great minds think alike.

In my mind, Peter is very aware that Neal is legit now, and probably is very thankful not to worry about that anymore. So the teasing is all in fun now - which they've joked about a lot before. Neal understood.

And don't worry, there's still more to come - lots more talking between the two.

As for S6 - I know! I was stunned how it ended up mirroring the show in a way. Thanks for reading.
