US trip

I know I have been a bad blogger ! Yet, I felt like writing here tonight. I've been thinking a lot about my upcoming trip to the United States lately. I'm currently working at my summer job (and will until August 12th) so I'm trying to save a some money. I don't know if I will end up buying these things for my trip but I've had them on my list for ( Read more... )

These are the best books, right ? You re-read them and it seems like it is the first time.
I have the absolute WORST memory for plots, so pretty much all books are like this. Movies and TV shows too. Re-reading or re-watching are like brand new experiences for me.

Speaking of having a bad memory, I read Middlesex ages ago and remember practically none of it. I think it was good maybe?

And no, Sylvia Plath's journals are NOT too crazy. I'm slowly plodding through them as well and they are quite interesting. I hadn't previously realized just how much of The Bell Jar and her short fiction were autobiographical until I started reading her journals.

(Those are really nice backpacks! Also, I say bring the Converse.)

Me too ! Me too ! It doesn't mean I didn't love the book, I'm just so bad at remembering plots ! It's really exciting because it makes re-reading books so fun !
Middlesex is supposed to be really good so I'm looking forward to reading more. It's so huge ! I'm only at the beginning I suppose as the narrator is still telling the story of his grandparents.
Are you reading anything interesting at the moment ?
About Sylvia, I used the wrong phrasing ! Sorry ! What I mean was : isn't it too crazy to think that I can read the entire book in only one summer ? Or should I keep it at my bedside and read it little by little ? Is that what you do ?
Thanks ! I really love the idea of having a backpack ! So comfortable and handy ! We'll see... And I think you're right about the Converse :)

Oh I totally knew what you meant about Sylvia. Reading it in one summer is probably doable but in a lot of small doses. I'm chipping away at it slowly but I have this problem with books that I own (as opposed to library books) where there's no urgency for me to read them. For example, I received the David Sedaris-edited collection of short stories Children Playing Before A Statue of Hercules for Christmas back in 2006 and I only managed to read it a few months ago. That's five years! So who knows how long it'll take me to get through Sylvia's journals, especially since I do most of my reading on the bus or on breaks at work and it's too large to really drag around comfortably.

I'm not reading anything new at the moment. I've just started a Harry Potter reread, which I seem to do every couple of years or so, and I'm reading Little Women for the first time since I was a child. I adore the 1994 Winona Ryder film and I feel like this might be one of those rare situations where the movie is BETTER than the book. Blasphemy, I know.

Yes, I agree ! Do people carry backpacks around you ? Because here in France, you never see people past high school with backpacks. I think it's sad. They're so handy ! And they can be really pretty too !

I'm really starting to think more and more about that backpack thingy ! I didn't think people would think it was such a good idea. That would be really handy. I could put my camera, my guides, my papers... We'll see ! I wish we could live in the same city and wear one together !
I miss you !! *hugssss*

Ah, your trip sounds so exciting! And you're so lucky to be going to Boston. I have some family living there, I would love to visit it sometime. I bet you'll have so much fun.

I'm glad your exams went well. Ah, final year. I'm finishing this year and it will go by so fast, you'll see.

Happy trip and happy reading! :D

Hi! It's ok, I get email notifications, so it's great hearing from you. I hope your summer was fun.

Wow, it's so close, you'll have a great time. Yes, I have an aunt and uncle in the Boston-area and they always say great things of Boston.

Yes, I'm well, outside of a pesky sinus infection/ allergies(?). I'm getting ready to start my masters degree in a couple of weeks, but I'm still in holidays-mode - watching lots of movies and reading and spending way too much time on the Internet. ;)

If we don't talk before your trip, I just want to wish you a great time. Have lots of fun and take loads of pictures. :D
