Electron Configuration

Aug 29, 2005 18:36

Hello people!
Let's see, since I just started quantum mechanics, how about this:

According to the quantum mechanical model, what is the electron configuration for Bromine?

BONUS: What is the configuration for Platinum?

What is the maximum number of electrons that can have the quantum number n=5?

Though I remember something about in the actual atom, the 4s2 comes before the 3d 10.

Bonus: I'm too lazy. I hate chemistry.

An atom with a full fifth shell (n=5) would have 50 electrons in that shell. I think that was the question.

Yes, d orbitals fill after the preceeding s orbital because transition metals are messed up.

Bonus: [Xe] 6s^1 4f^14 5d^9

Yes, 50 is correct.
