I just heard a sad story about thieves breaking into a family's car and stealing the satnav device whilst the car was parked at Alton Towers. The thieves then used the 'Home' setting in the satnav to find the family's home, which was empty, and steal lots of their stuff including another car ( Read more... )

In the U.S., people typically keep the car registration in the glove compartment in the car (I'm not sure if it's a requirement that it be there at all times, or just when the car is in use). The address where the car is registered is printed on the registration. So when you leave the car at valet parking, the attendants have access to your home address, and know that you're occupied with dinner (or wherever it is that you parked) for the next couple of hours. Even easier if you don't bother to take your car keys off the keychain and just hand them the whole thing... don't even need to break in. I don't use valet parking, but when I have to leave my car somewhere I lock the glove compartment and only leave the car key.
